Empower The Next Generation: Training My Young Colleagues to Work With Desk Phones
In a professional setting, it's crucial to understand how to navigate the intricacies of the workplace. One area that often requires guidance is the use of desk phones. As I was growing up, my family members used desk phones as their primary means of communication. However, with the passage of time, cell phones took over and became the norm. Since I was 13, I have used cell phones to communicate with everyone I know. I still recall when I signed up for college classes through my laptop and had to talk to my high school dean. He told me that during his college days, signing up for classes would require calling the college via desk phones.
Desk phones remain a primary tool for voice communication in many workplaces, despite jokes made by younger generations. Based on my personal and professional experience, many people of my generation and younger lack the skill of using desk phones. I myself was not familiar with desk phones when I worked as a front desk assistant at a gym in my early 20s. My supervisor was quite disappointed and even questioned why people of my generation did not know how to do basic tasks. After being scolded for several minutes, my supervisor trained me to use desk phones.
